Two years ago, I ventured out to transform legal services with The Legal Strategist.
But within months, something felt off. The road was well-marked, but it wasn't mine.
My original plan was to demystify legal services for emerging entrepreneurs. But after years in BigLaw working on major business deals, I realised that working with a lot of smaller businesses was not necessarily in my zone of interest. I was used to dealing with experienced buyers of legal services who understood the value of robust legal advice. Trying to explain to new founders why they should invest in their contracts was “not for me”. (Although I have since met brilliant lawyers who happily take this work on, so I am still able to help clients who need it.)
So facing the daunting sunk cost fallacy, I chose to pivot toward a new path lit by passion and experience from my legal past.
The pivot was a deliberate march towards a clearer vision. This past year we’ve solidified TLS's direction, engaging in ventures that not only challenge us but also play to our strengths.
I will still lead the charge, as founder, but am moving from the “I” to the “we” to embrace the fact that after nearly three years, there is more than one individual contributing to the success of this legal business.
